NORSU cited top performing school in Phl
CEBU, Philippines - Negros Oriental State University (NORSU) had earned accolades of exemplary performance out of the 102 state universities and colleges (SUCs) in the entire Philippines.
NORSU was cited the Top 2 Performing SUCs, with the most number of assessed programs (including preliminary visits) and tied for the Top 4 spot with the most number of accredited programs, Level 1 and above.
The announcement was made last February 13 during the launching of the International Outcomes-Based Instrument at the Manila Hotel by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED), Accrediting Agency for Chartered Colleges and Universities in the Philippines (AACCUP) and the Philippine Accrediting Association of Schools, Colleges and Universities (PAASCU).
NORSU, with 67 assessed programs was second only to Cagayan State University, which has 72 programs assessed.
It also tied for fourth with the Laguna State Polytechnic University (with 22 accredited programs Level I and above), following Isabela State University (with 32 programs), Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University (30) and University of Eastern Philippines (27).
The citation, a first in the history of NORSU, was a welcome development of this school, under the administration of Dr. Don Vicente Real, which had fully committed in the benchmarking of its academic programs through accreditation to achieve the university's vision of producing world class graduates by 2016.
Real, upon his assumption of the university presidency, adopted the motto: "Everyday is a Research Day. Everyday is an Accreditation Day. Everyday is a Quality Service Day for NORSU," to underscore the direction of the university towards quality education. — Juancho R. Gallarde
Doctor Jim Villahermosa, director of the NORSU Quality Assurance Management Center said the citations were a a source of pride for everyone in the university, adding that the process of accreditation will continue, especially for the university's flagship programs as mandated by Real. — (FREEMAN)
