Ormoc City bunkhouses better than in other EV areas
CEBU, Philippines - The bunkhouses built at Barangays Conception and Can-untog for Yolanda victims in Ormoc City are better than those in other areas in Eastern Visayas.
This was the statement of city officials, citing the improved roads and flood prevention structures built also in the site, which could be easily mistaken as a permanent housing units. Typhoon victims in the city are slated to occupy their respective units on March 1, although some of them have already moved in earlier.
Mayor Edward Codilla, an engineer by profession, defered the immediate occupation of the bunkhouses until further improvement and site development plan are completed.
“We want Ormocanons to be comfortable in their transition homes,†said Codilla, who ensured that concrete footing to elevate the bunkhouses will be built. The mayor further instructed local government agencies to assist the beneficiaries in their transfer to the bunkhouses.
City Administrator Francis Pepito, in a separate interview with The Freeman, confirmed that Codilla has been closely monitoring the transition period. “He wants to be sure that every family is taken care of,†he said.
Based on the mayor’s directive, Pepito required all city department heads and employees to be at the City Hall grounds on March 1 for the turnover of the bunkhouses to the beneficiaries. “They should be there to assist another batch of beneficiaries scheduled to be relocated on that day,†he said.
Transportation, garments, sleeping kits and kitchen tools are some of the assistance prepared by the city government, he added. (FREEMAN)
