CEBU, Philippines - Rains finally put an end to the forest fire that razed parts of Eastern Samar.
At least 53 hectares of land were razed by the fire, which erupted in Barangay Biga of Giporlos town, according to an ABS-CBN News report.
An aerial survey by the Philippine Air Force showed that the fire also spread to forests covering the towns of Balangiga, Lawaan, Salcedo, Marabut, Basey and Guiuan. No casualty was reported in the incident.
PAF choppers hosed down the fire but it was not enough to fully extinguish the blaze. The blaze was finally put out Sunday morning after days of intermittent rains.
Authorities noted that Eastern Samar had experienced hot weather for days before the fire erupted. They also suspect that a charcoal plant triggered the blaze. (FREEMAN)
