BACOLOD CITY, Philippines — The Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG), in an entrapment operation on Wednesday here, arrested two suspects for allegedly cloning and hacking internet modem of an internet service provider (ISP).
Nabbed were Jarryd Nielsen Villaflor, 23, of Barangay Sum-ag, this city, and Michael Ken Ledesma, 34, of Pontevedra town in Negros Occidental, after the P10,500 marked money and several cloned internet modems of Globe Telecommunications were recovered from them by the operatives.
The CIDG said the two were selling cloned internet modems and unlimited internet services, which they hacked.
Police recovered two Huawei Globe Tattoo Wi Max modems, an ASUS laptop, a PROLINK Globe Broadband Router with power cord and LAN cable, a Samsung Galaxy Y mobile phone, and a 16GB Kingston USB Flash Drive from Villaflor while seized from Ledesma were a Huawei Globe Broadband Wi Max modem with power cord and LAN cable, two Greenpacket My Bro modems with power cord and LAN cable, and a Nokia cellular phone.
According to Globe, in the complaint, the incident resulted in slow internet connection for the legitimate consumers. The suspects are now facing charges for violating Republic Act 8484 or the Access Devices Regulation Act. (FREEMAN)
