Comatose man, mistaken as dead, nearly embalmed

Danny B. Dangcalan - The Freeman

BACOLOD CITY , Philippines   â€” A 27-year-old man from Bago City, Negros Occidental was initially believed to have died already, so his family brought him to a funeral parlor for embalming.

However, personnel of the funeral parlor discovered the man, Rodolfo Caasi Jr., was still alive, Bombo Radyo reported Wednesday.

Caasi met a motorcycle accident in December and was admitted to the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital in Bacolod City. Later, his doctors pronounced him in comatose, reports said.

When the doctors told Caasi's family that he was in a comatose, the family decided to ask the hospital personnel to take down his life-support system, because they have no financial means to maintain it.

The family, apparently without knowledge what comatose meant, immediately brought Caasi to a funeral parlor.

Lilibeth Caasi, sister of Rodlofo, told Bombo Radyo he is now recovering, and can now move his lips.  (FREEMAN)
