DUMAGUETE CITY, Philippines - — The Bureau of Fire Protection in this city has called on retailers to dispose unfired or unsold firecrackers to avoid accidents that will result to conflagrations.
BFP City head, Chief Insp. Arnulfo Sayson, told the leader of Muslim traders of firecrackers during the holiday season to dispose of their stocks of firecrackers by storing them in a safe place or soak them with water so they cannot be of use anymore.
Sayson pointed out existing laws requiring the proper disposal of unfired firecrackers, as he raised concern over the tendency of unfired firecrackers to spark while being stored, which can cause fires.
The city fire department has responded to fires, the cause of which was the ignition of unfired firecrackers, especially those with explosives content. (FREEMAN)
