Military continues combat ops amid 45th anniversary of CPP
DUMAGUETE CITY, Philippines — The Philippine Army in Negros Oriental is now conducting combat operations especially in the hinterlands in anticipation of possible attacks by insurgents in connection with the 45th founding anniversary of the Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) on Dec. 26.
Brigadier Gen. Francisco Patrimonio, commander of the 302nd Infantry Brigade based in Tanjay City, said it has been the procedure of the military to strengthen its operations during the CPP anniversary, the armed wing (New People's Army) of which might launch tactical offensives within the period.
Patrimonio said his troops were directed to intensify clearing of insurgency-affected areas and strengthen defense of detachments while civilians who are possible targets of NPA liquidation are reminded to take extra precautionary measures.
These "targets" should be extra careful and avoid areas that make them vulnerable to attacks by the NPA, he said. (FREEMAN)
