DUMAGUETE CITY, Philippines – The driver and some passengers of a Ceres bus were injured after the bus ran wayward along the national highway in Bais City, Negros Oriental at around 7:30 a.m. Monday.

An initial police report said the Ceres bus (with plate number GXM 984) was north bound from Dumaguete City, heading towards Canlaon City, when it suddenly swerved off the road into a sugar cane field at Brgy. Cambuilao in Bais City.

Senior Insp. Loreme Baldado, Bais City Police chief, said the injured, whose names were not made available as of press time, were brought to the Bais City Emergency Hospital for treatment.

The injured driver, who was pinned down between his seat and the steering wheel, was brought to a hospital in Dumaguete. He told the police that he lost control of   the bus due to mechanical failure.

Police are investigating the real cause of the incident as some passengers claimed the driver allegedly failed to step on the brakes while slowing down to pick up another passenger. — (FREEMAN)
