Guns seized in security agency's armored van

ILOILO CITY , Philippines   â€”  A 26-year-old security guard was arrested after five firearms were confiscated from an armored van he was driving.

Diego Señeres, of  Barangay Tuburan in Sta. Barbara town of  Iloilo, was arrested Sunday evening while visiting his mother at Brgy. San Vicente in Leganes town, also in Iloilo.

Senior Insp. Cyril Octaviano said they were on patrol when they saw a parked armored van. They immediately spotted Señeres, a member of Mandarin Security Agency, donned on civilian clothes.

"It's a violation to drive an armored van in civilian attire. We immediately spotted a handgun placed on the van's headrest," said Octaviano, adding that they later saw a .38-caliber revolver and three baby armalites inside the van.

Based on Police Regional Office-6's records, Señeres is the 108th person arrested for violation of the election gun ban. Ninety-nine of the 108 violators are civilians.

As of yesterday noon, PRO-6 units confiscated a total of  53 low-powered guns, 26 high-powered firearms, 13 explosives, 31 deadly weapons, and two gun replicas.

PRO-6 director  Chief Supt. Agrimero Cruz, Jr. reminded the public that the 45-day gun ban will end on November 12.  (FREEMAN)
