BACOLOD CITY, Philippines — A woman died, and 18 others were injured when the mini-passenger bus they were riding collided with a truck along the eco-tourism highway of San Carlos City, Negros Occidental Wednesday.
Divina Cleveland was declared dead-on-arrival at the San Carlos City Hospital, while Ruel Licaros, 25, who was driving the mini-passenger bus, sustained serious injuries, according to Supt. Victorino Romanillos, San Carlos City Police chief.
Investigations showed that a truck, driven by Jose Lolito Villaester, suffered brake malfunction while descending on the highway of Brgy. Rizal in that city.
When the truck swerved to the left side of the road, it hit the bus that was headed in the opposite direction, the police report said. Both vehicles sustained heavy damage as a result of the collision
Romanillos said the 17 injured passengers were rushed to the San Carlos City Hospital, while Licaros was taken to a hospital in Bacolod City.
Villaester, 53, surrendered to the police and is now in jail. (FREEMAN)
