New market bldg named after Robredo
BACOLOD CITY, Philippines - The town of Pulupandan in Negros Occidental has named a new structure at the public market after the late Jesse Robredo.
Town officials said the gesture is a way for the town to thank the former secretary of the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) who died in a helicopter crash on August 18, 2012.
The new structure houses six food stalls and was constructed using the Performance Challenge Fund (PCF) worth P1,000,000 that DILG awarded to the town as a cash incentive for winning the "Seal of Good Housekeeping" award in 2012 during the term of former Mayor Magdaleno Pena.
The "Seal of Good Housekeeping" is given to best performing local government units across the country in terms of transparency and sound fiscal management.
Since the PCF grant was generated through Robredo's efforts, the municipal government deemed it is best to pay honor and tribute to the secretary by naming the structure after him.
The structure was inaugurated last September 18 attended by town officials, led by Mayor Miguel Pena, son of the former mayor, DILG provincial director Joy Maredith Madayag, and municipal employees. (FREEMAN)
