In Leyte Bagulaya leads Independence Day celebration

TACLOBAN CITY, Philippines  â€” Outgoing Leyte Governor Maria Mimmietta Bagulaya said poverty, ignorance, hunger and disease are among the several problems that challenge the country now as it celebrates its liberation from foreign colonization 115 years ago.

“Our vision now should focus on economic growth to address these problems and we should also give importance to education because it will give us knowledge and freedom from ignorance,” Bagulaya said in her speech during the Philippine Independence Day celebration held at the Leyte Capitol grounds yesterday, a PNA report said.

The governor also reminded those who were present at the program to give thanks to soldiers of yesterday and of today who had rendered their services and commitment in ensuring independence and peace in our country.

“Celebrating Independence Day every year gives us opportunity to remember what had happened yesterday before we were able to achieve what we are today,” Bagulaya said.

This year’s Independence Day celebration in Leyte province was organized by the Leyte Provincial Association of Government Employees.  (FREEMAN)
