Syril G. Repe - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - The government of this capital city of Negros Oriental is now set to join the rest of the country in celebrating the 115th Independence Day on June 12, which bears the theme "Kalayaan 2013: Celebrating a Legacy of Filipino Creativity, Talent and Ingenuity."

Silliman University's dean of the College of Mass Communication, Dr. Cecilia Genove, is this year's guest speaker for the city's celebration rites to be held at the Quezon Park, and to be attended by City Hall employees, and those from national and local government agencies, veterans' organizations and the Church.

The celebration will start after the simultaneous ringing of church bells, taps and sounding of sirens and raising and waving of flaglets at 7 a.m., followed by the flag-raising and singing of the National Anthem, and wreath-laying at the foot of the Rizal Monument. (FREEMAN)
