HILONGOS, LEYTE, Philippines —— A total of 140 runners, mostly youths, joined the 3-kilometer Fun Run, organized by the Hilongos Youth For Peace (HYFP) group last Sunday.
The fun run, bearing the theme “Run Against Child Abuse,†had the full backing of Mayor Jose Emery “Joy†Roble who has been working for the benefit and future of the youths.
According to Menans Aljon Reoma, president of the HYFP, the event was intended to generate more support for the group’s program for health, hope, safety and assistance to young victims of sexual and physical abuses, neglect and violence.
The event, participated by students, teens and children, was also a way of promoting health and wellness to the youths, said Reoma.
The winner of the mini-marathon was 23-year-old Andy Toniacao of Brgy. San Juan in this town, who said it was his first time to join this type of event, which was followed by a competition of different games prepared by HYFP for the runners.
The youths also brought with them clothes, toys, school supplies and other stuffs that were eventually donated to less fortunate children. (FREEMAN)
