Iloilo’ s remote brgys receive aid for infrastructure projects

CEBU, Philippines - Thirty-eight far-flung barangays of Leon town in Iloilo got financial assistance from the provincial government for infrastructure projects.

Governor Arthur Defensor Sr, during Monday’s meeting with village chiefs of Leon, has distributed the checks amounting to P3 million for the construction and rehabilitation of Day Care centers, multi-purpose hall, comfort rooms, barangay health centers, streetlights and waiting sheds.

Barangay beneficiaries were Oluangan, Magcapay, Ayabang, Biri Norte, Bucari, Ingay, Cagay, Buenavista, Samlague, Manampunay, Biri Sur, Bulwang, Tina-an Norte, Lang-og, Siol Sur, Talacu-an, Paoy, Jamog Gines, Awis, Tacuyong, Cabolo-an, Banagan, Pandan, Camandag, Mina, Tunguan, Paga, Avanzada, Isian, Anonang, Oluangan, Bayag, Pepe, Nagbangi, Odong-Odong, Coyunan Sur and Capt. Defensor told the barangay leaders that he was confident the projects will be fully implemented with this new strategy in giving out financial assistance directly to the beneficiaries.

“It does not mean I don’t have trust to your mayor but this strategy will help barangay officials to identify and determine what project is needed for their barangays,” said the governor.

Defensor added that almost 85 barangays in Leon had been covered by different projects since he started his term in 2010.

As of this year, the towns of Oton, Banate, Barotac Viejo, San Rafael, San Dionisio and Concepcion were also given financial assistance through the 20 percent development fund of the provincial government.  (FREEMAN)
