Fire victims get relocation

Montesa Griño Caoyonan - The Freeman

ILOILO CITY, Philippines — The 110 homeless fire victim families in sitio Sinikway, Brgy. Tabucan, Mandurriao district were given assurance of a relocation site in Brgy. Lanit, Jaro district in this city.

Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog, in a press conference the other day, said the fire victims were among those river dwellers identified by the River Development Council to be relocated as soon as the Iloilo-Batiano River development project is completed.

“We have given fire victims an option either to grab what we have offered to them earlier or go back to their old lifestyle,” he said, adding that their papers are now being processed for the awarding of the relocation site before end of March.

These affected families, consisting of 400 persons, are currently staying at the barangay gym and the Tabucan Elementary School although others had opted to stay with their relatives.

Mabilog said financial aids of P10,000 each for those with totally-burned houses, and P5,000 each for partially-damaged houses are being readied for distribution. (FREEMAN)
