DUMAGUETE CITY, Philippines – Mayor Karen Villanueva of Bais City in Negros Oriental has created an office to handle activities relating to livelihood and cooperative development to alleviate poverty and ease constituents from tight financial situations.
The office, headed by environmental management specialist Florante Bacang, sets the direction of organized associations and transforms these into sustainable cooperatives, said City Hall official Mark Montesa in a news release.
Through close coordination with the National Anti- Poverty Commission (NAPC), marginalized but promising sectors of society are given assistance in terms of access to financial capital as well as product and market development, Montesa said, adding that a lending policy has been crafted for the purpose.
