14 bets in Negros Occ purged from Comelec’s list

BACOLOD CITY, Philippines  â€” Fourteen candidates in Negros Occidental for the May 2013 elections have been delisted by the Comelec from its roster of official candidates, after they officially withdrew their certificates of candidacy.

Provincial election supervisor Jessie Suarez said six new candidates have filed their CoCs as substitutes for those withdrawn candidates.

Among those stricken from the list are Nationalist People’s Coalition candidates Augusto Clavera Tolosa, Rogelio Balandra, Nazario Ibañez Sr., Lanie Galveson and Glenda Diola—all running for Cadiz City councilors;

Others were Gloria Katalbas, Mnel Jimelia, Ramoneto Cadmelote and Geovanie Acdol—all running for Sagay City councilors. They were replaced by Tolando Canal, Pio Manlangit, Victor Garcia, Jr. and Eduardo Santiago, respectively, Suarez said.

In Silay City, stricken from the list were Evelyn Tan, who was substituted by Emily Rose Ann Gamboa for councilor; and Quirse Cavales of the United Negros Alliance (UNA), who was replaced by Susan Nakayama for La Castellana town councilor.

In Victorias City, Mark Palanca, an independent candidate for mayor, also withdrew his CoC.

In E.B. Magalona, those who withdrew their CoCs for councilor were independent candidates Nilo Japitana and Reylan Gamboa Sr.

The Comelec is now in the process of finalizing its official list of candidates before printing the official ballots for the May 13 elections, Suarez explained.  (FREEMAN)
