CEBU, Philippines - On two separate session meetings, the local governments of Manjuyod and Mabinay towns in Negros Oriental have approved resolutions endorsing the development of Hedcor’s hydropower plant in these areas.
Mabinay Councilor Cris Emperado sponsored the resolution that was unanimously approved by the Municipal Council last November through Resolution No. 329. Meanwhile, on December 18, the Manjuyod Municipal Council approved a similar resolution authored by Councilor Resty Baldado.
The two resolutions made possible the further development of the proposed run-of-river hydropower plants that will tap the Ilog River running through these towns.
Hedcor officials appeared before the two councils in 2012 seeking an endorsement of the project. Both LGUs agreed that Hedcor’s proposed project will bring more development and a positive economic impact to the area.
Hedcor, a wholly-owned subsidiary of AboitizPower, specializes in generating renewable energy through run-of-river hydropower systems.
Currently, it has 19 hydropower facilities in Davao, Benguet and Ilocos Sur with a total generating capacity of 155 megawatts. The proposed hydropower project in Negros Oriental is just one of the many additional projects of Hedcor across the country. —CONTRIBUTED (FREEMAN)
