BACOLOD CITY , Philippines — A 25-year-old saleslady of a cellular phone shop was raped and stabbed 30 times in Cadiz City, Negros Occidental Thursday, police said.
The body of the victim, identified as Christina Marie Marquez of Brgy. Luna Cadiz City, was found by workers in a sugarcane plantation Thursday 6 a.m. with multiple stab wounds and a slash on her throat, said Supt. Noel Mana-ay, chief of the Cadiz City Police.
Marquez, who had a three-year-old daughter, was estranged from her husband.
Police theorized that the suspects may have been waiting for Marquez, who was employed as cashier of a cellular phone store, to pass by the area, and then dragged her towards the sugar cane plantation, about 200 meters from the highway, where they raped and killed her.
The police have two suspects in the brutal killing. They are the victim’s neighbors Joemar Tapil, 31, who was courting her, and Antonio Rustia, who was seen standing by an electrical post near the sugarcane plantation, where Marquez was found dead.
The strands of hair, recovered from Marquez’s hand, were submitted to the PNP Crime Laboratory for investigation, Mana-ay said. (FREEMAN)
