DepEd-N. Samar hosts 2012 reg'l schools press con
CATARMAN, N. SAMAR , Philippines — The Department of Education Division of Northern Samar hosted the 2012 regional schools press conference from November 19 to 22 in this capital town, a PIA-8 report said.
Schools Division Superintendent Ronelo Al Firmo, in his welcome message, said that Republic Act No. (RA 7079), otherwise known as Campus Journalism Act of 1991, mandates for the development and promotion of campus journalism.
He said the event enhanced journalism competencies through individual and team competitions, while serving as an avenue to hold coaching and mentoring expertise of school paper advisers and school management.
Firmo further said to support and promote the campus journalism, DepEd provides opportunity for the training of pupils and students in campus journalism especially those who have the flair in writing.
The event was participated in by the 12 divisions in Eastern Visayas namely, Biliran, Borongan City, Calbayog City, Catbalogan City, Eastern Samar, Leyte, Maasin City, Ormoc City, Samar, Southern Leyte, Tacloban City and Northern Samar. (FREEMAN)
