Bohol celebrates 116th Pres. Carlos P. Garcia Day

TAGBILARAN CITY, Philippines  — The province of Bohol celebrates today the 116th anniversary of then President Carlos Polestico Garcia, but there’ll be no holiday tomorrow (Monday), November 5.

Provincial administrator Alfonso Damalerio II confirmed this during the Kita Ug Ang Gobernador forum last Friday that Nov. 5, is as usual a work day or no holiday being declared due to long weekend holidays, Nov. 1 and 2, being All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day, respectively.

As this developed, all activities are being lined up for today’s big event in honor of the Boholano president during his 116th birthday with senatorial aspirant Paolo Benigno “Bam” Aquino IV, a close relative of President Benigno Aquino III, as the keynote speaker.

The program will start with “Foyer Honors” at Pres. CPG Park, Capitol site, Cogon of this city at around 7:15 a.m. and followed by wreath-laying rites at the Pres. CPG monument in the same venue and then a Mass at the Bohol Cultural Center.

The program at the center will start with Vice Gov. Concepcion Lim’s welcome address and tribute to Pres. CPG through songs and dance by the Holy Name University Diwanag Dance Theatre and Dimiao Children’s Rondalla. It will be followed by the recognition of the Pres. CPG scholars by PB Member Cesar Tomas Lopez.

Representative Rene Relampagos (1st district, Bohol) is expected to deliver his speech and to confer on the CPG awardees: Noel Tuazon for literature; Charlito Ayco for public service; and Zosima Acuram for music.

A message by Gov. Edgar Chatto then to be followed by a talk by lawyer Fernando Campos, son-in-law of the late president and secretary-general of the CPG Foundation, then the governor’s signing of an Executive Order creating the CPG Heritage House Board.

After this, Bam Aquino will deliver his speech, followed by PB Member Josephine Socorro Jumamoy with her closing remarks to conclude the program.

Meanwhile, the 3rd CPG Chess tournament is slated at the Island City Mall activity center sponsored by the provincial government. (FREEMAN)
