The other day we were talking about how showing off doesn't amount to anything. This is after a big bike rider killed one person and injured another by riding too fast along Taft Avenue. He is facing multiple charges, and large fines, was injured, his motorcycle burned, and he could even go to jail. All of that is because of showing off.
On the Marilaque Highway, a video was taken of two riders racing each other while doing a "superman" move where the rider is on his belly with legs raised as if flying like Superman. It's ridiculous, reckless, and dangerous. Various videos show the two riders going back and forth at the said curve in Marilaque where many people are parked by the highway’s shoulder and watching motorcycles pass by. In the said video, the two riders collided while going fast and doing a superman. They both lost control and slammed straight into the retaining wall. Some bystanders were injured. Several motorcycles were damaged. One of the riders died.
Was the price of their showing off worth it? One rider died. The other was injured and will also face many cases in addition to having to pay large fines. Even the injured bystanders on the side of the highway have to be compensated. When will the authorities wake up to what is happening in Marilaque every Sunday? When will the police take action to prohibit riders from parking along the highway which emboldens some to show off? If there is no one watching, there is no one to show off to, right?
The Marilaque Highway is becoming dangerous not only for those on motorcycles but for all motorists as well as those parked along it. The authorities need to take action to make the said highway safe. This is not a racetrack. This is not a place where you can show off or brag about whatever skills, legit or ridiculous, you have. How many more will be injured or killed before authorities become strict about driving safely on Marilaque? It should be easy to find places where they can enforce safety. They just need to find the curves where people park and gather. Parking should also be prohibited on these curves. So that riders are not emboldened to show off to a cheering crowd.
