In celebration of the University of the Philippines Cebu’s grand alumni homecoming dubbed as “Paghandom ug Pasidungog”, distinguished alumni, faculty retirees have been recognized for their significant contributions to the institution and the broader community. I am deeply appreciative of the dedication and commitment demonstrated by these individuals, which showcases the importance of service and leadership. When I received the news that I was one of the 13 Tatak UP awardees, I was initially taken aback and filled with a sense of disbelief. The caliber of past awardees is truly remarkable, as they are individuals who have dedicated years and immense effort to the welfare of others, achieving feats that seem beyond ordinary human capacity. Their commitment to making a difference in the community has always inspired me, which made me question whether I could measure up to their legacy. Despite my hesitations, I began to reflect on my own contributions and the impact I have made, realizing that perhaps my efforts, though different, also hold value. Ultimately, this nomination has encouraged me to embrace the opportunity and continue striving for excellence in my own endeavors, while honoring the spirit of those who have come before me.
I am profoundly grateful to the University of the Philippines Alumni Association for this recognition, which holds a special place in my heart. Receiving this honor feels incredibly meaningful, especially as it comes after having been awarded two Gawad Chancellor awards during my time as a full-time faculty. These accolades have not only validated my efforts but have also fueled my passion for education and community service.
