Emmanuel B. Villaruel - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines — The Benedicto College (BC) Cheetahs will continue their push for the No.1 seed and a twice-to-beat advantage in the Final Four of the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation, Inc. (CESAFI) Season 24 men’s basketball tournament when they go up against the Cebu Institute of Technology-University (CIT-U) Wildcats today (Saturday, November 23) at the Cebu Coliseum.

Currently at third place with a 5-1 win-loss record, the Cheetahs could still wrest the top spot in the college division if they hurdle their last two assignments against the Wildcats at 3:30 this afternoon and the undefeated University of Cebu (UC) Webmasters on Tuesday, November 26.

The Wildcats hold a 2-5 slate and are already out of contetion regardless of the outcome of their match against the Cheetahs.

On the other hand, the Cebu Roosevelt Memorial Colleges (CRMC) Mustangs and the University of San Carlos (USC) Warriors are both aiming for a graceful exit as they collide against each other at 5 p.m.

In high school play, the two-time defending champions Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu (SHS-AdC) Magis Eagles will take on the University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF) Baby Panthers in the 12:30 p.m. opener while the University of the Visayas (UV) Baby Lancers will battle against the CMRC Baby Mustangs in the second game at 2 p.m.

Whatever the results are, the 9-1 Magis Eagles and the 8-2 Baby Lancers are already bound for an exciting semifinal showdown on November 28.

The Grand Slam-seeking Ateneo Hearters will enjoy a twice-to-beat edge over the Baby Lancers being the second-ranked qualifiers in the semis.
