For art, film, TV drama lovers

The information below is especially for those who love art, film, and TV dramas.

First, in case you have not been there yet, you have till today, June 8, Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., to view sisters Julia and Jheane Borja’s exhibit entitled “Hide and Seek!” at Qube Contemporary, Design Center of Cebu at A.S Fortuna, Mandaue City.

This invitation: “In the hidden depths where shadows dance and whispers linger, a mysterious game begins, with stakes that seem to vanish like mist. We wander through winding paths and expansive spaces, seeking refuge and hoping to unveil the truth. Hide and Seek marks the debut solo exhibition of Julia and Jheane, a dynamic artistic duo whose work explores the intricate dynamics of concealment and discovery in the realm of creativity. As visitors explore the exhibition, they will embark on a journey that delves into the nuanced interplay between concealment and revelation, presence and absence.

“Drawing inspiration from the timeless childhood game, Julia and Jheane invite viewers to contemplate the multifaceted dynamics inherent in the act of hiding and seeking. Much like the players in the game, the artists navigate a shared artistic space, constantly evaluating the possibilities that surround them. Through their works, they illuminate the dichotomy between the hider and the seeker, blurring the lines between roles and highlighting the fluidity of identity.

“Hide and Seek, akin to an allegory for an artist's journey, encapsulates the quest for self-awareness and comprehension. Julia and Jheane traverse a landscape of revelation and concealment, mirroring the game's dynamic. Their pursuit mirrors a quest for enlightenment, purpose, and human connection, while their concealment reveals vulnerabilities, anxieties, and concealed aspects of their identities. Ultimately, this timeless game serves as a poignant reminder that the journey of self-discovery unfolds continually, marked by unexpected twists, formidable hurdles, and enlightening epiphanies.

“Central to the exhibition is the notion of collective memory, embodied in paintings suffused with the essence of youthful exuberance. The canvases resonate with the echoes of running children, inviting viewers to evoke their own sentiments and memories. Yet amidst this collective nostalgia, Julia and Jheane carve out their distinct creative identities, exploring the influence of proximity on their work while celebrating the divergence that arises from their shared experiences.

“This exhibition challenges viewers to shift their focus from narrative to interaction, encouraging a deeper engagement with the interplay of forms, colors, and emotions. While "hide and seek" serves as a thematic anchor, it is ultimately a catalyst for a broader exploration of creativity and collaboration.”
