Good life after quitting ‘sabong’

THE EAR - The Freeman

A taxi driver confessed to his passenger, an EAR informer, that he was addicted to cockfights or “sabong” since his teenage years up to several years ago when he finally decided to quit. There was just no stopping him from going to cockpits and illegal cockfight arenas, he said. There was, in fact, a point when their electricity at home got disconnected after he squandered the money on cockfighting.

But he’s a renewed man now. And he proudly exclaimed how their house has now become three stories, two of which being rented out to boarders. “Mao toy pinakanindot nako nga desisyon sa kinabuhi—ang moundang og sabong (That was my best decision in life—to quit sabong),” he said.
