They say that God’s greatest gift to mankind is the coming of Jesus Christ to the world. Because God so loved the world, He had sent his begotten son to us to bring a great message about salvation for those who really believed in Him.
Of course, what we celebrate this holiday season is the birth of Jesus, an event dubbed as the most important in Christendom. In the Christian faith, such celebration is about hope for a brighter future.
Historically, no one really knows the exact month and date of the birth of Christ. The Bible does not tell us when He was born. If we consider the weather condition at the time of his birth, December is associated with cold and rain in the Middle East.
For history experts, Jesus was not born in December. According to the Bible, on the night of Jesus’ birth, the flocks were in the fields. Luke 2:8-12 says “And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord. This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.”
Of course, the issue on the birth of Christ is not really important. For Christians, what really matters most is the fact that they always look forward to celebrating His birth, a routine that has become one of the most important part of their lives.
We always have a sacred reason to celebrate the birth of Christ. And that reason stems from the fact that only through Him can we have salvation. Merry Christmas to all of us.
