A letter for you. A mendicant who is frequently seen along N. Bacalso Avenue has taken begging to an entirely new level. When jeepneys stop for the red light, he picks one and boards it. He hands the passengers airmail envelopes, each one has a small note explaining who he is and his sorry situation. He then squats along the aisle and plays a harmonica while waiting for passengers to fill his envelopes with money. At the next red light, he picks up the envelopes and disembarks.
Enveloped by sympathy. Some passengers throw the envelopes out, others ignore them, but others also fill them with money. The beggar seems to have an endless supply of the envelopes and appears not to care about the ones thrown away. People have grumbled about how this form of begging is being tolerated but so far, it seems no one has approached the authorities about him.
