Lifestyle check for policemen

THE EAR - The Freeman

MAYORS' REPORT. Cebu Provincial Police Director Clifford Gairanod revealed that several mayors approached him about policemen who are drug protectors. A police official reacted: "Karon pa diay ka chief? Kadugay na anang problemaha nga naay mga kauban nato nga protektor og drugas."

MOONLIGHTING. The same police official told The Ear that Gairanod's statement before the media should be coupled with positive action, that is to identify, investigate, bust or arrest them while on moonlighting job with their drug lord patrons. "Kahibalo na na si Gairanod nga 20 ka tuig na nang problemaha. Pustaanay ta, baba ra na siya kutob."

LIFESTYLE. Reporting to media and even having Gairanod on front pages of all newspapers would not solve the problem of policemen doing protection duty to drug lords. The best solution there is to put these suspected "drug protectors" in uniform in a lifestyle check. And that check on the standard of living of policemen should be done not only to non-commissioned officers, but to officers as well.
