Due to public demand, the book “The Battle for Cebu: The Siege of Sudlon,” written by American historian and researcher Prof. Michael Culliname will be launched on our talk show” Straight from the Sky.” There are only a handful of Cebuanos who know about the battle that happened in Cebu when most of us where not even born yet.
Because people I have met say they haven’t seen this TV interview with Prof. Culliname which we already showed last Jan.26th, I decided that it was time to replay this interview for the sake of those who missed it. Many of us drive to the Transcentral Highway not even knowing where Sudlon is located. This book on the Battle for Cebu is testimony to the Cebuanos’ bravery against the Americans who took over from the Spanish colonizers. While in the end, the hardy Cebuanos failed in their quest, but we must remember those who fought for the freedoms we enjoy today.
Please watch this replay on SkyCable’s channel 61 at 8:00 tonight with replays on Wednesday and Saturday same time and channel. We also have replays on MyTV’s channel 30 at 9:00PM Monday and at 7:00AM and 9:00PM on Wednesday and Friday. We hope you will enjoy Cebu history in this show.

No matter how the propagandists of the Yellow Regime under the leadership of Pres. Benigno Aquino III gives a positive picture of the Aquino Regime, the fact remains that he has less than a year in office and with the presidential elections of 2016 getting closer and closer, we will begin to see defections from the Liberal Party (LP).
The latest news was the resignation of Department of Trade & Industry, Secretary Gregory Domingo who said that he feels burned out and will be leaving the DTI by next month. Sec. Domingo was the executive director of SM Investments Corp. when he was recruited to be the first DTI chief of President Aquino in July 2010. As DTI chief, Domingo has been one of the Cabinet members whose performance has been lauded by the business community and I fully agree with their observations.
In fact I met Sec. Domingo in an event that I attended in Manila a few months back and I congratulated him that the DTI under his stewardship was not embroiled in any corruption scandal. So now he is quitting the Aquino Cabinet… perhaps he is burned out, especially hearing the so many negatives that have besieged the Aquino Regime from the Year 2010, when those Hong Kong tourists were killed in a bungled police raid. Today the bad news keeps on coming and only the corrupt and hardy souls are staying in the Aquino Cabinet…hoping that recently resigned DILG Secretary Manuel “Mar” Roxas would win the presidency.
If there is anyone who ought to turn in his resignation to Pres. PNoy Aquino, it is Department of Public Works & Highways Secretary Rogelio Singson. I was just writing this column and I opened by Facebook page to Freemans’ top reporter Mitchelle Palaubsanon and found out that the DPWH during the EASTS 2015 Conference at Radisson Blu attended by transport scientists and experts from 18 countries showed their proposed High Standard Highway Network in Cebu, including the construction of the 3rd bridge.
For the highly-urbanized area, they mentioned the extension of the Cebu Coastal Road up to Liloan. I just passed this road last Friday and there are no signs of any road widening. From Liloan to Danao, there were only diggings for a drainage. But we did see a sign in front of the municipal hall of Liloan and let me write what is written in the DPWH caratola.
“Widening of Cebu North Hagnaya Road, Liloan Section K0018+000 to K0018+240, Liloan, Cebu. Contractor Ven Ray Construction. Date Started: August 15, 2014. Date completed November 2, 2014. Contract Cost P5,885,501.41. Implementing Office DPWH 5th Engineering District. This was last year’s project and it’s nowhere near the P23 billion that Sec. Singson showed to Pres. PNoy who in turn told his critics, including this writer, to wear eyeglasses.
If there is anyone who needs eyeglasses it is PNoy because up to now, we are still looking for his P23-billion boast that was spent in Cebu province in the five years of his reign. Come now, P23 billion even if it’s just the rehabilitation of our roads can be seen by Cebuanos, many of whom are still asking me where are the projects that DPWH said it did?
Either Pres. PNoy misread the figure, which is actually closer to P2.3 billion instead of P23 billion…we don’t know. So Sec. Singson, please either fire all your DPWH officials in Region 7 or you should all resign including you, Sec. Singson.
