Dispatchers

THE EAR - The Freeman

DISPATCHERS. Jeepney and bus passenger dispatchers have increased their “tong” rates or “service fees” with the onset of the holiday season. This was learned by some passengers from the drivers themselves. One PUJ driver has been quoted as saying: “Singko-singko lang, asa dawata... Kapin gyud sa singko. Ang uban gani diyes-diyes gyud.”

FEAR. Because they fear physical harm some drivers say they would give in, especially if the dispatcher looks “Kuyaw” and says to your face: “Ah, singko kuwarta na?” There is an ordinance banning dispatchers but dispatching of passengers continue. Some drivers say: “OK lang, panginabuhi sab na nila basta di lang ta hadlukon.”
