Slighted

Why are they calling an army general "The Butcher?" The workers in a slaughterhouse are slighted. They're honorable men.

Once again it's proven: You can run from the law but you can't hide even for three years. The NBI agents got noses.

It says here that a secretary was fired because the boss saw her desk cluttered. "An indication of a cluttered mind," the boss said quoting someone. "And what is the indication of an empty desk?" the secretary said also quoting someone else.

I was visited by a one-time bicycle racing contest winner. He said: "Don't forget the bicycle. It symbolizes life. You got to keep moving or else you fall."

Batang Gilas lost to Team USA in the U-17 Fiba World championship in Dubai. I heard a tv commentator call it "Massacre in Dubai." The score was 124-64. The US coach nevertheless called our team secretary. It was meant to be a praise.

As I write this, Batang Gilas is yet to meet Team France. I read in the sports pages that France are as tall as the Eiffel Tower.

For proposing to allow PNoy to have six more years in the Palace, even the pro-Roxas observers are now calling Mar, my man, inferior Secretary. Of course, they're just trying to have some pun.

My good friend Father -Now real father- Agustin Sollano has been named one of the TOCA (Ten Outstanding Cebuano Awardees). Congratulations, father, I didn't know much about Father Sollano's background until I read TF staffer Gregg Rubio's article about him. He's no ordinary father.

But more than his academic church achievement, I salute now Mr. Gus Sollano for his honesty and sincerity in living up to his vow to God even if he had decided to leave the priesthood. So unlike the other priests you and I know who keep kicking under the rags their wrongful act, as if God doesn't know what gives.

E-mail from G. Griego Gustilo of Lexington Place, S.F.: "How can I get a regular copy of The Freeman? Maybe through my cousin in Mandaue City?" Sir GGG, you can read TF daily online through www.philstar.com. Try it. Thanks.

OVERHEARD: Some civic club members were discussing issues about the cha-cha and PNoy's term over cups of coffee in a hotel lobby. Someone on an adjoining table butted in sayig: “Kompletohon unta usa nila ang rehab sa mga dapit nga gisalakay ni Yolanda." No reaction from the coffee drinkers.
