No protest vs bullies

The so-called militant activists are up in arms against the military bases talks between the Phl and US. "I would like to see these activists raise their hackle against China for bullying poor us," says Dr. Nick Sarmiento, himself also an activist during the dictatorship.

"This bullying has been going on for quite a time," Dr. Sarmiento said. "But no so-called nationalist activist has dared brandish even just a chopstick against the bullies." He stressed: "It's unfair not to be fair and square in situations like this."

There will be a re-blocking of the burned area in Brgy, Lorega-San Miguel where once was a cemetery. This is a chance for the city to make that area a modern community, somewhat like a newtown.

Thanks to Sir Julius Martin R. Angel of the Local School Board for a copy of his research material on Cebu City's leadership history from the time of President Emilio Aguinaldo. It's a very valuable material containing information never before known to most Cebuanos.

The eight municipal presidents (town mayors) named by Julius are the virtual missing link to the present Cebu City leadership. They are Florentino Rallos (1899-1907), Martin Llorente (1907-1910), Vicente Teves (1910-1916), Fructuoso Ramos (1916-1922), Hilario Abellana (1922-1930), Regino Mercado (1931-1931), Fructuoso Ramos again (1931-1936), and Marcos Morelos (1936-1937). A street has been named after each of them, the most popular of these streets being F. Ramos St.

I join researcher Julius Angel in his suggestion to enshrine in the legislative building the names of the eight municipal presidents (mayors) who ushered in the new generation of leadership in our city.

A well-known political analyst has been reported as revealing that a Binay-GMA (who else but ate Glo) presidential tandem has been formed since 2013 and is still in the works. Surprised? Many are not and if you know how it goes in Phl politics you, too, should not.

OVERHEARD: Senator Miriam Defensor Santiago has urged students to get mad at corrupt politicians who steal our taxes. One mother said: "Not only the students should get mad. Ang tanang mabuot nga Pinoy ug Pinay kinahanglan sad nga masuko."
