Rehab czar

This Christmas make time to think of what the Germans say: "A small gift is better than a great promise."

I'm writing this at about 1 a.m. The tv is still on and there is someone speaking. I heard him say Christ wasn't born on December 25 and that there's no such thing as Christmas.

I put off the tv set and thanked that man for giving  something to write about on this space. It's trash but trash these days is cash.

A radio anchor welcomes PNoy's decision to name ex-Sen. Ping Lacson "Rehabilitation Czar" whose main duty is to rehabilitate the areas devastated so mercilessly by super typhoon Yolanda. I like that title "Rehab Czar" better than "Chief Carpenter" which was suggested by another radioman.

The United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Australia and now France have warned their citizens against traveling to certain areas in Mindanao. Let's welcome those warnings. They save us the trouble of making the warnings ourselves to avoid kidnappings that would bring us embarrassment.

The news says P17.5 million in medicines purchased by the government not with Mickey Mouse money have expired in the stockroom of the DOH. Try to imagine how many lives could have been saved by those medicines. Just try.

Paul Walker, the famous star of the "Fast & Furious" movie series, died in a car accident in Los Angeles. He was to take part in a charity show for the benefit of the Yolanda super typhoon in the Philippines. Before his death Paul was on YouTube urging the whole world to help the Yolanda and Haiyan victims.

OVERHEARD: There was an after-dinner discussion about the multi-billion-dollar foreign aid to the typhoon and earthquake victims in Phl. A former consular official said: "Nalipay ko maghunahuna nga pinangga gyud ang Pinas sa foreign countries." A college professor said: "Maayo unyag di mogawas sa YouTube ang mga foreign aid nga adto mi-landig sa mga estante sa dagkong supermarket sa Metro Manila." Consular official: "Kay naa ba diay? Atong gibinuangan ang pagpangga sa mga langyaw nato."
