Sulpicio Go Street, Cebu City
It is the street which is a portion of T. Padilla Extension, the road from the corner of Quezon Boulevard, fronting the wharf, up to the corner of Serging Osmeña Boulevard in Cebu City.
Don Sulpicio Go was an outstanding citizen and resident of Cebu City, the city of his heart and affections, where he lived continuously for a period of 46 years until his death on March 21, 1992.
Don Sulpicio Go was one of the pioneers in the shipping industry whose vision for the future contributed tremendously to the economic advancement of Cebu City and the rest of the country.
Don Sulpicio Go was the Founder and Chairman of Sulpicio Lines Inc. which provided for numerous and varied opportunities to the residents of Cebu City as well as those in the neighboring cities and provinces.
Under the stewardship of Don Sulpicio Go of the Sulpicio Lines, the company was the recipient of the following awards and citations, namely:
-Outstanding Institution in the Field of Transportation presented during the 40th Charter Day Celebration of Cebu City on Feb. 24, 1977.
-Outstanding Business Institution presented during the 49th Charter Day Celebration of the City of Cebu on Feb. 23, 1986.
-Meritorious Service Award presented by the Emergency Rescue Unit Foundation Inc. on Sept. 13, 1987.
-1990 Shipping Company of the Year awarded by the Philippine Coast Guard.
Don Sulpicio Go was posthumously conferred the "Great Cebuano Award" on November 12, 1993 by then Governor Vicente dela Cerna of the Province of Cebu.
The Cebu City Council on motion of Councilor Rogelio V. Osmeña (who later became Vice Mayor) enacted City Ordinance 1685 on July 14, 1997 renaming a portion of a street in honor of a model Cebuano who serves as a beacon and a guiding light for the people, especially the young, to follow and emulate.
