Conrado C. Tudtud Street, Cebu City
It is the street formerly known as H. GUIBILONDO beginning at STA. 0-270 to San Jose de la Montana (later changed to Juan Luna, then renamed as Pope John Paul II Avenue).
The Cebu City Council on Apr. 22, 1971 on motion of Councilor Florencio S. Urot enacted City Ordinance No. 705 renaming the street in honor of Conrado C. Tudtud.
Conrado, was the son of spouses Lope Mina Tudtud and Leonora Colina. He was born on Dec. 25, 1902. He married his first wife, Esperanza Godis and had the following children: Delia and Conrado. His second wife was Segundina Solon and bore the following children: Carolina and Edgardo.
Conrado served as Councilor of Cebu when it was then a Municipality. He became Chief of the Detective Bureau of the Cebu Police Department. He had the rank of Captain and Assistant Chief SSD District of the North District, Cebu Police Office.
In 1921, he became part of the PartidoDemocrata. He was part of the core group that created the Mabolo Golden Era. His contemporaries and colleagues in politics in Mabolo were Vitaliano Colina, Estanislao Macasero, Paulino Sanchez and Manuel Borgonio.
During World War II, he spied for the Cebuano-American guerilla movement, his area was the Mabolo District. Aside from being a councilor and a law enforcement officer, Conrado was a businessman, he was a pioneer of the cold refreshment industry. He owned the "Conrad's Ice Drop" which was the favorite refreshment at that time. He was likewise active in church activities.
He discharged his duties in all these positions with honor, distinction and fidelity in view of his personal conviction that service is not to be measured by monetary consideration alone but by one's dedication to duty to serve his fellowmen.
Conrado died on Dec. 6, 1970. A year later the City Council of Cebu honored him with a street name to be emulated by his fellow Cebuanos. The City Council was then composed of Raymundo A. Crystal as Acting Presiding Officer, Florencio S. Urot as Presiding Officer, Bienvenido B. Tutud as Floor Leader, the City Councilors were Arturo L. Abellana, Jesus S. Gabuya, Jose V. Arias, Pablo U.
