Salvador Streets of Cebu City

CEBUPEDIA - Clarence Paul Oaminal - The Freeman

There are two streets in Cebu City named after the family name "Salvador". One of them is C. Salvador Street in Labangon beginning from Tres de Abril, passing B. Zubiri Street crossing Katipunan Street and ending at the Labangon River. The Cebu City National Science High School is situated along the said street.

It is named after Carlos A. Salvador, originally from Dauan, Batangas. He married Maria Ylaya of the Ylaya Clan of the San Nicolas District. He was clerk of the Court of First Instance (now known as the Regional Trial Court) from 1908 up to his death on Mar. 1, 1929. Said to be a model citizen and a man of virtue, he attended Mass every morning before going to work.

The Salvador Street Extension goes beyond the Labangon River (where the Alejo's Lechon is situated) ending at the corner of the Maria Paloma Village (where the Court of Appeals holds office). The name of the road that connects where Salvador Extension ends is the Ramon Duterte Street.

The other Salvador Street is the formerly unnamed street located in Barangay Guadalupe, from R. Duterte Street leading towards Forest Hills Subdivision in Sitio Banawa. It is named in honor of Judge Celedonio Salvador.

Before joining the judiciary, Celedonio was appointed as the first assistant provincial fiscal (now called prosecutor) of Cebu in 1957. He was subsequently appointed as Presiding Judge of Branch II, City Court of Cebu (now MTCC). He died on May 8, 1979.

Celedonio, during his lifetime, was a recipient of several national and local awards as an outstanding city judge. His high, commendable performance in the exercise of his judicial duties, he easily earned the love and respect not only among his peers in the profession but also among the Cebuanos as well.

The Integrated Bar of the Philippines unanimously passed a resolution expressing deepest condolence and irreparable loss for the death of Celedonio who was known for his fair and speedy dispensation of justice.

The Cebu City Council on motion of Councilor Arnulfo R. Ravina enacted City Ordinance No. 1441 on Jan. 11, 1993. The Acting Presiding Officer of the City Council then was Rodolfo Y. Cabrera.
