Mariano Veloso Street, Cebu City

It is the formerly unnamed street traversing Emilio Osmeña Street and passing along the residential house of the late Don Mariano Veloso then turning right at a right angle until its end at BacayoStreet  within the Veloso Subdivision, Guadalupe, Cebu City.

The Cebu City Council on May 8, 1972 enacted City Ordinance No. 756 naming a street in honor of a philanthropist and a kind-hearted person who conducted himself with dignity and decorum.

Don Mariano, married Consuelo Carratala, who was the daughter of Feliciana Enriquez Carratala. The sisters of Consuelo were Carmen who married a Gandionco and Concepcion who married a Sidebottom. Don Mariano, who was said to be the wealthiest Cebuano during his time, had eleven children. The eldest was Gabino, who sired children with the following women: Marcosa, Cornelia Abatayo and Lucia Unabia. One of his daughters, Elena Veloso married Carlos Pilapil the father of showbiz personality PilarPilapil.

Another daughter of Mariano, Dolores, married Simon Paterno, son Manuel Veloso married Concepcion Araneta, BuenaventuraVeloso married Lourdes Rodriguez whose children were: Antonio (married Edwina Johnston), Ben Veloso Jr. (married ConchitinaAraneta), Jose (married Malou Antonio), Mario (married Josephine Sevilla) and Alfredo (married Maida Hizon). Angeles married Dr. Romualdo Solon, another daughter of Mariano, Guadalupe, married EdilbertoOsmeña and had the following children: Carmelita Osmeña (married Ramon de Jesus), Antonio (married Corazon Caluwag) whose birthday falls on August 29, the date of the death his grandmother Consuelo, he also became OIC Mayor of Cebu City from Nov. 27, 1987 to February 2, 1988 and donated his salary to the Department of Social Welfare and Services. Renato (married Ma. Victoria Zayco) who became one of the most effective vice mayor of Cebu City and instilled discipline in the city's traffic and police force and Rogelio (married Lydia Galang) who became city councilor and pioneered the marksmanship training of the Cebu City Police Office.

The seventh child of Mariano, Milagros, married Dr. Manuel Cuenco, who became Governor of Cebu and Secretary of the Department of Health. Milagros and Manuel had the following children: Antonio Cuenco (married Nancy Roa) became Congressman of Cebu City South District and the old 5th District of Cebu. Ramie, Manuel Jr. (married Raquel Blanco), Filomena (married Jose Victor Panis), Jose (married Minerva Sotto Yuviengco) also became City Councilor and Mayor of Cebu City and Jesus (married Teresita Garcia).

The eighth child, Jesus, married Antonia Cuizon while Gonzalo married Irenea Lopez of Carmen, Cebu and had the following children: Jovencio (married IsmaelaTabornal), Inez (a nun), Lourdes (retired school teacher), Jose, a doctor of medicine (married Teresa Reyes), Arturo (married Wilma Rubio), Consuelo (married Miguel Gagarra), Mariano, Antonio and Perseveranda. The last two children of Don Mariano were Jovencio and Nicolas.
