Taxi passengers

The Senate bill, authored by Sen. Miriam Defensor Santiago, that pushes for taxi passengers' rights, should be welcome by the thousands of taxi passengers who, for a long time, have been suffering in silence from abusive cabbies.

Many of the taxicabs operating in Metro Cebu have aircon systems that do not function well. The units are hot inside. The passengers who are paying for a full-aircon service rate are in effect being shortchanged.

***

There was an incident told to me by a fellow newsman concerning a non-functioning taxi aircon and a fastidious passenger. There was a bitter argument when the bullish husband of the woman passenger tried to force the driver to get down and buy the wife a "paypay."

All sermons or homilies in the Catholic churches last Sunday were about gratitude. Newsfotog Loy Jurado, whose advocacy in life is the promotion of gratitude as a virtue, called me up to say he was adopting as his motto what Fr. Jerry Orbos said: "Gratitude is the best attitude."

Loy J is one person I know who looks down with teeth gnashing on any person who doesn't know how to say "Thank You" for any good he or she has received from anyone, God in particular.

The DOTC continues to talk about the New Bohol Airport in Panglao. This project is being talked about for years. It looked like it's going to be the longest airport in the country in terms of the length of time it will be finished.

***

By the way, the Bohol/Panglao airport is in Bohol not in Palawan as reported in the press last Oct. 12, 2013...Which reminds me of an earlier mislocation. When a Boholano friend of mine told someone from Manila that he was from Bohol, he was asked: "Ah, from Bohol kayo, saan sa Davao?"

The Panaad Football Stadium in Bacolod City is said to be the biggest football ground south of Manila. But watching (on TV) the Peace Cup game between Taiwan and Pakistan last Sunday where the bleachers, nay, the stands were empty, could only make my friend Teddy and me sigh: "Kaanugon sa lingkuranan."

OVERHEARD. The news said that Nur Misuari may now be in the Middle East. Commenting on this a retired Constabulary colonel said: "Ha, ha. Wa man gani nila madakpi si Misuari sa Pinas, didto pa sa Mideast. Ha, ha."
