Mariano M. Abella and Pedro Q. Cabaluna streets

Two interior streets in Labangon, Cebu City were officially given names in an ordinance enacted by the Cebu City Council. These are:

Mariano M. Abella Street

The Mariano M. Abella Street is the street starting from B. Zubiri Street to E. Jabonero Street in Labangon. It is named after Mariano Macaweli Abella who was born on June 6, 1907. He served Barangay Labangon in various capacities, namely, Barangay Treasurer and most importantly, as the Barangay Cabesa (now called Barangay Captain or Chairman).

Mariano was responsible for the construction of various drainage systems in the barangay, the monument of Don Sergio Osmena Sr. at the Labangon Elementary School and the construction of the old Barangay Hall.

Pedro Q. Cabaluna Street

The Pedro Q. Cabaluna Street is the street located in the interior of BLISS Housing in Labangon. Pedro Q. Cabaluna was born in 1889, he was the child of Felipe Cabaluna and Eduarda Abella Quijano.

Pedro was a leading personality of the Catholic Faith Defenders and was given an award by Pope John XXIII. He was a successful businessman and a well-known debater. He was a recipient of an award by the Labangon Professional Association.

The ordinances naming the two interior streets were sponsored by Councilors Jocelyn Pesquera and Ernesto Elizondo. City Ordinance No. 1832 provided for the naming of a street in honor of Pedro Q. Cabaluna while City Ordinance No. 1833 provided for the naming of another street after Mariano M. Abella.
