Plain writing bill

THE EAR - The Freeman

PLAIN WRITING. Neophyte Sen. Grace Poe has filed a bill that reflects her concern for the common people. The bill is titled “Plain Writing for Public Service Act.” Under the bill, government offices are required to write in simple and easy to understand language orders, communications, messages.”Write plainly for Juan de la Cruz,” Sen. Poe says.

LEGALISTIC. A local college professor has hailed Sen. Poe's “plain writing” advocacy saying that not 100 percent or even 50 percent of Filipinos could understand the usual written orders and communication issued by government offices. “Many of these offices use legalistic language,” the prof said.
