A Sergingista to Tom: Don't rock the boat

The mayoral bet in Calapan City who lost in the coin toss to break the tie with his opponent in the last election has changed his mind. He flipped.

He now wants a recount of the actual votes cast. But it's not as easy anymore as tossing the coin. The coin toss to break the deadlock was legit and had the sanction of the Comelec. “Sana nag-jack-en-poy na lang sila baka naiba ang result,” a Comelec lawyer jested.

South District Rep. Tom O is filing a protest with the Comelec re the result of the Cebu City balloting. So what else is new?

A comment heard from an old Sergingista (follower of Tom O's dad Serging): “If Tomas really loves Cebu City, he should refrain from rocking the boat and instead help Mike Rama bring the city to greater progress.”

Tom O helping Mike Rama bring the city to greater progress? That's like asking the crab to: “Hey, stop being a crab, will ya?”

The barangay and SK elections set by law in October this year will push through as skedded. This according to President PNoy, unless, like the climate, he changes his mind. So expect another noisy months ahead of us.

In batting for the scrapping of the SK (Sangguniang Kabataan), John Rey Saavedra, one of the three hosts of the popular TV talk show Clearcut Tonight (CCTN, Cha. 47), said: “Maypa himuon na lang ning mga SK members katikistas.”

John Rey was supporting the proposal of lawyer Fritz Quiñanola (another Clearcut Tonight host) to abolish the SK because it has done nothing beneficial to society. Nothing? Manny Rabacal, another member of the Clearcut Tonight triumvirate, takes exception to that.

In the Senate, one is poor if one has to his name only P4 million like Sen. Chiz Escudero has. One is rich like Sen. Manny Villar if he has P1 billion-plus. Sen. Chiz and Sen. Sonny Trillanes with P4 million each are the poorest senators. For now.

OVERHEARD. Some men in a watering hole in Lahug talked about the jailing of Joavan Fernandez described in a news story as “notorious.” One beer-drinker said: “Luwas kaha na si Joavan sa provincial jail?” Another beer-drinker: “Ambot lang...Pero didto sa city jail kuyaw siya. Kakan-onon og balbakuwa ang mga piniriso ug gusto kuno nilang balbakuwahon si Joavan.” Ugh!
