Propaganda can destroy a nation

SHOOTING STRAIGHT - Bobit S. Avila - The Freeman

Didn't we just lambast the Social Weather Station (SWS) about the way they conducted their surveys, which in effect allows for the "trending" of candidates in this election and the last one in May? Rep. Mitos Magsaysay was very vocal in demanding to know who conducted those surveys, who paid for them and what kind of questions were asked. She clearly pointed out that those surveys did not reflect the sentiment of the people of Mindanao who are today suffering from those pesky eight-hour brownouts. Yet, SWS tells the Filipino people that 81 percent are satisfied with our lives? Shame on SWS!

Clearly what SWS is doing is to paint a nice picture of the Aquino Presidency at a time when he is most saddled with problems here at home and abroad. PNoy's mishandling of the Scarborough Shoal or Bajo de Masinloc or the Sabah case only shows his incompetence and ignorance of diplomacy. Worst of all, in the Sabah case, when the lives of Filipinos are in dire danger of being shot at by the Malaysian military, PNoy goes on campaigning for his senatorial candidates.

Someday, those who still believe in the Aquino Presidency will wake up to the reality that they've been fooled all the way… much in the same way that the majority of the German people were fooled by Propaganda Minister Joseph Goebbels, who was so good at his job he even believed in his own pack of lies even as allied bombs started to fall on Berlin.

Indeed, Goebbels coined the infamous phrase, "A lie repeated a thousand times assumes the substance of truth." In the end, we know that the truth is in our Lord Jesus Christ for he is the truth and the life. Meanwhile, the structures of Nazi Germany have crumbled to become tourist sites, especially the death camps that they made in Dachau, Birkenau and Auschwitz. As for Goebbels, he killed all his six children, five girls and one boy, his wife Magda and even his dog and then killed himself.

This is what propaganda can do to a country…destroy it by presenting to the people a pack of lies. Alas, the people of today, whether they are Germans or Filipinos are just too gullible that they would believe anything fed to them by their government.

So back to the SWS… last Wednesday, the Inquirer came out with a front-page report that blared, "1 out of 11 thinking of leaving church." Of course it meant the Catholic Church. As the SWS figures show, 9.2 percent of those they surveyed "sometimes considers leaving the church." This was supposedly collated from Feb. 15-17. The SWS further revealed that compared with other denominations, Filipino Catholics were less devout and active in attending church services. Hello SWS! This is something that the Catholic Church already knew. This is why we call these people "Cafeteria Catholics." I have written volumes about this fact.

And so once more, we ask SWS who asked for this survey? Didn't both SWS and Pulse Asia reveal that each survey they conduct cost upwards of P4 million? Surely SWS is not telling us that the Catholic Church spent that money in order to find out what they already know? But perhaps the bigger question that we ought to ask SWS is…why conduct this survey to a question that no one was asking? Ah… the plot thickens!

All we need to do is find out who are the enemies of the Catholic Church… and surely you will find them in those left-leaning organizations like Gabriela, Akbayan, Bayan and many others who are in truth allied front organizations that bow fealty to the Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP). They are no doubt the real enemies of the Catholic Church because as you all know, communism, despite its being passé is still active in this part of the world. Just look at the communist government of North Korea under Chairman Kim Jung Un, who is now threatening the world with his nuclear missiles and could bring the human race into extinction!

I would also like to believe that the SWS survey was conducted by the propagandists of the Aquino Regime, who have been hurting by the tag that was initiated by Bishop Vicente Navarra of the Bacolod Diocese called Team Patay. I have no doubt in my mind that this pro-life campaign has hit hard on Team Pinoy. So who has the funds to conduct that survey that is clearly designed to discredit or shame the Catholic Church? Could it be that the monies used came from PNoy's P300 billion pork barrel, which cannot be subjected to a Commission on Audit (CoA) check?

Sure, I may only be guessing, but by simple deduction, it can very well lead us to those who seek to destroy or discredit the Catholic Church. As for the Catholic Church, please don't forget that the clergy has to leave the 99 sheep behind in order to find the lost sheep. In short, they will try to save the souls of those 9.2 percent who allegedly want to get out of the church.
