CEBU, Philippines - A still unidentified man was shot dead Friday night at Unit III, Carbon Public Market, Cebu City and police are yet trying to hunt down the lone gunman.
Past 9 p.m., vendors at Unit III were disturbed by a gunfire and then saw a guy fall to the ground.
The gunman who was known as “Jefjam” was seen fleeing as the victim, a certain “Sam,” fell to the road with blood spurting from the head.
Carbon police received report about the shooting from a concerned citizen and a team led by Senior Police Office 2 Artemio Tumakay responded to the alarm.
When they arrived at the scene, Emergency Medical Services personnel assessed the victim was not showing any signs of life.
Witnesses told investigators that the victim was just walking along the street and the suspect followed him. The suspect then pulled out a gun and shot the victim’s head once before leaving the place.
Both suspect and victim were just known in the area by their nicknames.
Police said they cannot ascertain what could have been the suspect’s motive since vendors did not really know them.
The police are now conducting a hot pursuit operation against the suspect and are trying to fully know his identity.
The victim’s cadaver was brought to St. Joseph Funeral Homes for an autopsy.
Meanwhile, a father and his son died after being shot by unidentified gunmen who waylaid them on Thursday night in Barangay Amatugan, Tuburan town.
Vicente Diamante Bohawe, 57, and his son Erwin Bostria Bohawe, 31, died after their bodies were riddled with bullets.
Senior Police Officer 2 Aldin Abay-abay, desk officer at Tuburan Police Station, said both victims came from the public market and were heading home when they were waylaid by the suspects.
Erwin was with his wife and another female while his father was alone in his motorcycle but when they reached a slippery and downhill portion of the road, the females were asked to alight the motorcycle.
The father and son went on but when they reached downhill, they were fired upon by unknown suspects.
Their companions checked them and found that they were already dead.
Police recovered two empty shells of caliber .45 pistols from the crime scene and discovered tracks of the killers who waited to ambush the victims. (FREEMAN)
