CEBU, Philippines – A truck driver of a trading firm was brought to the police station for allegedly using fake money to gas up in Barangay Lawaan 3, Talisay City on Thursday morning.
Angelito Cahutay, 40, a resident of Barangay Mambaling, Cebu City, was reported to the police after the cashier, Jessie James Rendal, 25, noticed that the P1,000 bill handed by the former was too pale and counterfeit.
Cahutay reportedly refueled over P500 worth of gas.
Cahutay, for his part, told The FREEMAN that he placed the bill in his pocket right after his employer handed it to him.
"Wala gyud ko’y kalibutan og peke ba to o dili ang kwarta kay nisalig ra man ko (I did not care to check whether the money was fake or not because I trusted my employer)," he said.
Rendal said Cahutay called his employer to inform him of the incident, but the latter reportedly refused to pay the obligation to the gas station.
That’s when Rendal and his co-workers decided to bring Cahutay to the Talisay City Police Station.
Still in Talisay City, a college student sought police help after she was reportedly robbed by two unidentified men while she was riding a public utility jeepney in Barangay Bulacao on Thursday evening.
Charmie Ferolino, of legal age, a resident of Barangay Tisa, Cebu City, told Police Officer 3 Junyl Ater that she was on her way home when the two male suspects also boarded the vehicle.
Upon reaching Barangay Bulacao, the two suspects who were armed with an unknown caliber of firearm, reportedly declared the holdup.
Due to fear, Ferolino said she handed her bag to the suspects which contained her wallet with P5,000 cash and other valuables.
She said the money was supposed to be used to pay her tuition.
Authorities made a follow-up operation after the alarm but failed to locate the two perpetrators. — Gabriel C. Bonjoc of BANAT News
