CEBU, Philippines – A 41-year-old man was shot dead by yet unidentified assailant in Sitio Kapaping, Barangay Basak, Lapu-Lapu City around 7 p.m. on Monday.
Alejandro Capilitan Jr., a freelance civil engineer, sustained gunshot wound on the head that led to his instant death, according to Police Officer 3 Jerson Alparito, investigator at the Lapu-Lapu City Police Office-Homicide Section.
Prior to the incident, Capilitan, who was a resident of Deca Homes 3 in Barangay Basak, was walking on the street going to a mall when the male suspect approached him from behind. The suspect then reportedly pulled out his firearm and shot Capilitan's head with the bullet exiting through his forehead.
Witnesses told police the suspect ran away from the crime scene and escaped through the use of a motorcycle parked near the mall. Bystanders were also unable to identify the suspect as the shooting happened fast. The suspect reportedly sped off to the direction of Barangay Marigondon.
Alparito said they recovered an empty shell in the crime scene coming from a .45 caliber pistol. Police also recovered the victim's two Cherry mobile phones, a black small bag containing a check book, wallet and identification cards. (FREEMAN)
