Prevent fire during revelries, public told

Gabriel Bonjoc - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines – Those who are planning to greet the New Year should remain vigilant always to prevent fire incidents, said Senior Inspector Randy Mendaros, chief of Talisay City Fire Department.

"Ang ato lang nga unta nga kitang tanan mahimo na gyud untang responsible aron maminusan naman lang ang disgrasya," Mendaros said.

He urged residents to be always careful in everything they do these holidays, saying this will help prevent untoward incidents like fire and injuries that arise from irresponsible use of firecrackers and even guns.

Mendaros said that for this year, they may not be able to get the zero firecracker incident target because there are people who are “ stillhard-headed and irresponsible.”

"Naa man gyu'y daghang tawo nga buluyagon kun diin ang gipangbawal nga butang o buhaton mao man hinuon ilang gamiton ug buhaton," Mendoras said.

He also urged the public not to use sub-standard series lights since they are the most common cause of fire during holiday season, especially when they are left unattended.

He said they are ready to respond to any alarm they might receive during the New Year’s Day celebration.

Aside from being wary, Mendaros urged the public to start the new year with good health practices, as well as maintain mental, emotional and spiritual wellness. (FREEMAN)
