CEBU, Philippines – A Lapu-Lapu City government’s initiative was able to bring around 10,242 children to what it called “Kiddie Land,” a sort of Christmas present for kids from the mainland and island barangays.
Frances Nicole Balao, executive assistant of Lapu-Lapu City Tourism Office, said despite minor incidents reported last Tuesday, the children nonetheless enjoyed the whole experience.
She said children coming from different barangays in the city and in the islands and islets of Caubian, Pangan-an andCaohagan took part in the initiative.
“Nalingaw ra pud ang parents because something new pud (sa Kiddie Land) ang fish spa, while (the parents and or the rest of the family members) nakapa-make up gyud sila and massage,” she said.
Ambulance and medical responders had been on standby for the whole day activity, she said.
The Kiddie Land started last December 18 and 19 in Olango Island wherein around 6,402 children from the island barangay graced the activity.
A similar activity was held in the mainland Lapu-Lapu City, particularly at the Hoopsdome in Barangay Gun-ob, last December 29 and 30 where around 3,840 children were present.
Inflatable rides, Lego Land, mascot, magic shows, and food concessionaires could be found in Kiddie Land.
The robotics team from one of the schools in the city also showcased their ability in controlling mini robots witnessed by the children aged 5 to 15 years old who looked happy and amazed.
Mayor Paz Radaza said the city government budgeted P1.5 million for the event.
Last year, around 12,000 children flocked to the same activity. (FREEMAN)
