CEBU, Philippines – Mandaue City Hall employees’ Christmas party yesterday was highlighted by a relief campaign for the victims of typhoon Nona in Samar.
This after Mayor Jonas Cortes the other day urged them to also extend help to Nona victims as they do merry-making to celebrate Christmas.
Cortes in his memorandum issued the other day said that while the city government holds the Christmas party at City Heritage Plaza, government officials, employees and personnel are “enjoined to participate in the relief campaign for Samar for the benefit of those affected by typhoon Nona.”
“All donations will be greatly appreciated, however, we are encouraging you to give the following goods as these are the items that are direly needed by typhoon victims: food and water, used clothing,” the memo read.
The city’s Bantay Mandaue Command Center was set up yesterday to receive relief goods from employees.
“No one is so poor that he/she has nothing to give and no one is so rich that he/she cannot receive,” Cortes said.
At least 65,000 houses in Samar were destroyed after Nona hit the island last Monday, reports said. At least 11 were also reported dead at the wake of the devastation. — Liv G. campo (FREEMAN)
